IFI FAMILY: THE RACE

Director: André F. Nebe

84 minutes, 2009, Ireland-Germany, Comedy/Drama/Sport

This film screened Sunday 15th March 2015.

Showing in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Festival, this warm-hearted and humorous tale tells the story of 11-year-old Mary who dreams of being a racing driver, despite the disapproval of her parents and the local community.

When a nearby go-kart race is organised, Mary decides to enter and, with the help of her friend Tom, sets about building a kart. Needless to say there is a lot of opposition. Her parents, played by Colm Meaney and Susan Lynch, are already hard-pressed trying to keep the farm going. They don’t need Mary giving them more to worry about, not to mention the fact that racing is a boy’s sport.

But Mary’s determined to prove them all wrong. With her skill and Tom’s help, she is determined to build a dream kart that will win her the race and fulfil her dream.
