Five individuals give voice to their experiences of Ireland’s multifaceted transgender community in this exploration of a wide range of LGBT issues. Interviews and personal footage are preceded by a performance art piece which expresses a crucial aspect of the interviewees’ unique identity. Whilst the experiences recounted differ considerably, common themes and challenges are located: the desire to be true to oneself, the possibility of being rejected by family, and the difficulty and importance of finding a welcoming community. A documentary tackling an important topic, Identities allows for shifts in its mood, finding both the humour and the struggle within each person’s story.
