Hamlet

Director: Franco Zeffirelli

USA| 1990| Drama| 135 mins

Franco Zeffirelli chose popular action hero Mel Gibson to play the title role in this naturalistic, fast-paced adaptation of Shakespeare’s most filmed play. Gibson communicates a great sense of frustrated energy in his inability to respond to suspicions that his father was murdered by his mother and uncle. Glenn Close turns in a suitably aloof performance as Gertrude and the late Alan Bates excels in the role of evil Uncle Claudius.
