A huge hit in Japan, and the subject of an inevitable Hollywood remake, Takashi Shimizu’s supernatural horror piece The Grudge is set in a mysterious house with a sinister past. The film is more like a journey through a house of horrors than a conventional narrative and relies on creating an atmosphere of impending doom rather than effects-driven shocks.
