GIRLHOOD

Bande de filles

We continue our tour of this insightful coming-of-age story about 16-year-old Marieme who lives in the banlieues of Paris. With troubles at home, limited job prospects and intimidation by the boys in her neighbourhood, she is drawn to a girl gang who eventually take her seriously. As Marieme becomes compelled to participate in their acts of petty crime and gang fights, she also experiences their close bond, and the support they give each other. The accompanying study guide focuses on themes of friendship, identity, choices and being young in Paris.
