GAZE: THE BOYS ON FILM

We are grateful to the Edwards MacLiammoir Estate for permission to screen these films.

This programme of films from the IFI Irish Film Archive includes those made by and featuring The Boys, Micheal MacLiammoir and Hilton Edwards, stars of Dublin’s theatrical and social scene and for decades the city’s only openly gay couple in public life.

SCREENING IN THE RAIN

HAMLET AT ELSINORE
A film of the Gate Theatre’s visit to Denmark in 1962 with a production of Hamlet, following the cast (lead by MacLiammoir) through rehearsal and performance.

A recently discovered, rarely-seen ghost story produced by MacLiammoir and Edwards and featuring Patrick Bedford and Maureen Cusack.

RETURN TO GLENNASCAUL
Produced by MacLiammoir and Edwards, this ghostly story set in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains is narrated by longtime friend of the couple Orson Welles.
