Irish Film Institute -Gaudi Afternoon

Gaudi Afternoon

This new film from Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan) is a warm and witty gender-bending detective story about alternative families. Cassandra (a sublime Judy Davies) is an American translator living in Barcelona. When femme fatale Frankie hires her to track down her missing ‘husband’, she finds herself embroiled in a web of mistaken (sexual) identities, double crosses and kidnapping. The terrific supporting cast includes Juliette Lewis and Lili Taylor as a dysfunctional coupe who make Frankie’s life hell. Gaudi’s flamboyant architecture provide the perfect backdrop for this eccentric and entertaining modern fable about the deceptiveness of appearances.
