FEAST YOUR EYES: I AM LOVE

Director: Luca Guadagnino

114 minutes, Italy, 2009, Colour, Blu-ray

This event screened in April 2010.

Set in Milan in and around the stately home of a wealthy Italian family, at the core of I Am Love is the adulterous relationship between Emma Recchi (Tilda Swinton) – wife of textile manufacturer Tancredi – and Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini), a talented young chef who she meets through her son.

Aroused by the food Antonio prepares for her at his father’s restaurant, Emma becomes infatuated and makes every effort to see him again. As the relationship develops, she gradually begins to renounce the traditional, formalised world she once represented, turning instead to a more sensual, immaterial existence. With meals inspired by the cuisine at the legendary Cracco Peck restaurant in Milan, this film is as stylish and enticing as it gets.

This event will also include a screening of a short video, Parsnip Fritters, by Aoife McElwain and Mark Duggan of Forkful TV (www.forkful.tv) which they will introduce.

The screening will be followed by a meal inspired by the film in the IFI Café Bar. You can choose from one of the following:

Ukha (a light Russian broth of vegetables and fish, garnished with lime and dill)

Chicken Parmigiana served with Green Salad

Aubergine stuffed with Mixed Vegetables and Rice, topped with Parmesan Cheese and served with Salad
