Eight Miles High

Director: Achim Bornhak

GERMANY| 2007. SUBTITLED. COLOUR. ANAMORPHIC. DOLBY STEREO SR. 114 MIN.

Eight Miles High chronicles the life of flower-child extraordinaire Uschi Obermaier, who became the embodiment of sexual freedom in 1960s Germany. Combining the sexy poutiness of a Teutonic Brigitte Bardot with just a dash of Jane Fonda’s chic revolutionary zeal, Obermaier not only shook conservative German society but also the anti-establishment and feminist movements. Flaunting her romances with the likes of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the hippie nymph and successful model never let business get in the way of pleasure.

In director Achim Bornhak’s biopic, the Munich-born Uschi (played by rising star Natalia Avelon) moves into the legendary Berlin ‘Kommune 1’. When the commune falls apart in 1968, she takes to the road with the charismatic adventurer Dieter Bockhorn (David Scheller). They set out in search of the summer of eternal love, but their idealism dissipates when Dieter cannot come to terms with Uschi’s desire for independence. After Dieter’s death, Uschi has to confront the price of freedom.
