Dolls

Director: Karin Babinsky

2007 Czech 90 mins

Dolls (Pusinsky) is an edgy coming-of-age lesbian road movie, with great insight into the teenage experience. The story focuses on three female friends, one of whom is just coming to terms with her sexuality, as they leave the Czech Republic for their new dream life of freedom in The Netherlands. Desperate to escape parental and social authority, the girls, as in all the best road movies, hit some rough spots along the way before lessons are learned, break-ups occur, and love is finally found. ‘Czech drama Dolls goes where most Hollywood teen pics fear to tread in its close-to-explicit depiction of sexual awakening and late-teen horseplay.’ Variety
