Company of Wolves, The

Palace’s first production was this ambitious adaptation of an Angela Carter story, which led to a long-standing collaboration between Stephen Woolley as producer and Neil Jordan as writer-director that continues today with their new film, Michael Collins. Carter’s imaginative take on Little Red Riding Hood provided an opportunity for ground-breaking creative risks, including Gothic sets, teenage sexual fantasies and low-budget special effects. A commercial as well as artistic success, The Company of Wolves was one of the most striking achievements in British cinema of the ’80s.
