Good luck, Chucky! A 20th anniversary screening of Tom (Fright Night) Holland’s iconic frightener, the movie that gave the world homicidal cuddly toy Chucky, who’s still slaying them four demented sequels later — a ‘reboot’ of the series is planned for 2010. When psychopathic serial killer Charles Lee Ray (good old Brad Dourif ) is tracked down and killed by cops in a Chicago toy store, he uses a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a nearby Good Guy doll; the store promptly burns to the ground, following which a homeless peddler sells the demonic doll onto a single mother (Catherine Hicks) desperate to land a Good Guy for her six-year-old son. Cue murder, mayhem and choice one-liners aplenty. While the tabloids have ensured that the Child’s Play series will forever be linked to tragic real-life events, Holland’s original remains a textbook exercise in celluloid suspense.
