In Catch Me Daddy, British Pakistani teenager Laila (Sameena Jabeen Ahmed) and white boyfriend Aaron (Connor McCarron), with whom she ran away in defiance of the will of her family, hide out in Yorkshire, fearing they may be targeted for honour killing as a repercussion of their actions. The couple are being tracked by an uneasy alliance between a group of family members sent by her father, and a pair of white men hired for their connections in the area. The film is almost unbearably tense as the men close in on the young lovers, becoming ever more gripping and harrowing as the full horror of Laila’s situation becomes clear.

Since its premiere at Cannes, Catch Me Daddy has received considerable acclaim, particularly for Ahmed, making her screen debut, and cinematographer Robbie Ryan, who finds moments of lyricism in these grim surroundings. (Notes by Kevin Coyne)
