Director: Rémi Chayé

This film is F-rated.

Winner of the Cristal Award at the 2020 Annecy International Animation Festival, this is a gorgeous family feature from French animator Rémi Chayé (The Secret of Kells), bringing his recognisable hand-drawn style to the Wild West. It’s 1863 and young Martha Jane Cannary is riding along with a convoy of wagons headed west. When circumstances force her to care for the horses, she scandalously cuts off her hair and dons trousers, the better to function in a man’s world. Gaining in strength as she drives west, Martha Jane’s encounters with danger and adventure lead to her growing up as the frontierswoman and heroine, Calamity Jane.

Screening as part of the IFI French Film Festival 2020, November 11th-22nd. Full schedule here.
