Beloved Enemy

Director: H.C. Potter

U.S.A.| 1936. Black and white. 90 min.

Here is a rare chance to see one of the few copies of Beloved Enemy in existence with the alternative ending to the original release version. Starring Brian Aherne, David Niven and Merle Oberon, this love story is set during the War of Independence and is loosely based on the life of Michael Collins. It was produced by the legendary Samuel Goldwyn, directed by H.C. Potter and the lush black and white cinematography is by the great Gregg Toland. Originally found by Declan McLoughlin of the Limerick Film Archive, the print we are screening has been restored with support from the Heritage Council’s Museum and Archive fund.
