Actor Jan Jonson decides to direct Waiting for Godot in a high-security prison in Sweden with five prisoners as actors. Their acting proves to be so authentic that Beckett follows the rehearsal from his Parisian home, and the prison authorities allow the production outside prison walls in a Goteborg theatre house.
