ART THROUGH A LENS: THE BATTLE OF ORGREAVE

This film screened 2nd March 2010.

IRISH PREMIERE
Mike Figgis’ film of Jeremy Deller’s The Battle of Orgreave
Run in conjunction with NCAD, this session focuses on contemporary artists whose work is directly informed by different genres of filmmaking such as documentary and music video. Turner-prize winning artist Jeremy Deller’s seminal work, The Battle of Orgreave (2001), was a re-enactment of one of the most violent confrontations of the 1984/85 miners’ strike. The event was documented by acclaimed filmmaker Mike Figgis, and the resulting film, screened on Channel 4, is a central element of the overall project which used the two worlds of historical re-enactment and documentary to highlight the cultural significance of the last battle fought on British soil.

Tickets for individual screenings are available from the IFI Box Office.
