PROGRAMME 1: WHEELS

In this, his directorial debut, Cathal Black (Pigs, 1984 and Learning Gravity, 2007) is first drawn to the work of John McGahern, a landscape he revisits in his feature-length film Korea (1995). In Wheels, a small farmer’s son (Brendan Ellis) who is working in Dublin returns to the midlands to visit his father and stepmother in the fraught, stultifying atmosphere of his birthplace.
