THE IRISHMEN: AN IMPRESSION OF EXILE – TALK BY DR. HARVEY O’BRIEN
Following the journey of a young man from Ardwest in Connemara to Euston, London, Philip Donnellan’s powerful documentary shows Irishmen working on British canals, railways and motorways, and explores the complexity of their ideas, their jobs, aspirations and experiences – and celebrates their contribution to the building of Britain. The traditional Irish singing of Paul Lenihan and Joe Heaney and the powerful lyrics of Ewan McColl are set against the voices and opinions of Irish people in England.
