Alchemist and the Virgin, The

In Zoltan Kamondi’s striking and decidedly bizarre film, the alchemist (a university professor who’s trying to make gold out of plastic) and the virgin are two corners of a love triangle which also includes the girl’s boyfriend. Alchemy is used as a metaphor (representing the transforming powers of love and greed) throughout the film, which Kamondi mounts as a grotesque philosophical adventure yarn.
