Irish Film Institute -A Day

A Day

College sweetheart Seok-yoon and Jin-won marry after graduation. Having established successful careers for themselves, they are anxious to start a family, particularly Jin-won, who was raised by her aunt after the early death of her parents. After a long period of trying unsuccessfully, the couple are delighted when Jin-won finally becomes pregnant. However, their happiness is short-lived when a routine check-up indicates that the child will be severely physically handicapped and may not even survive its birth. The couple disagree about what to do. Director Han Ji-seung’s film is moving without being overly sentimental and is carried by two excellent leads in understated performances which convey the joy, pain and sorrow of the couple’s tragic plight.
