50 Ways of Saying Fabulous

Director: Stewart Main

New Zealand| English| 2005| 90 mins.

A witty account of the traumas of growing up gay in a New Zealand farming community in 1975, from the co-director of cult hit Desperate Remedies. Lou and Billy’s idyllic friendship is put under strain by the appearance of a handsome farmhand to whom they are both drawn. A new boy at school, Roy, is an awkward sensitive artist, nicknamed ‘The Freak’, but Billy finds himself drawn to him as well. Sexual secrets, public humiliation, betrayal and a touch of melodrama add up to an unforgettable and affecting portrait of developing self-awareness.
