30 DAYS OF NIGHT

Director: David Slade

U.S.A.| 2007. COLOUR. 35MM. DOLBY DIGITAL STEREO. 113 MIN.

We’re pleased to open this year’s Horrorthon with the just completed 30 Days of Night. Based on the celebrated comic, co-produced by Sam Raimi, and directed by hot new talent David Slade (Hard Candy), this is one of the most eagerly-anticipated horror movies of the year. For 30 days every winter, the isolated Alaskan town of Barrow is plunged into a state of complete darkness. It’s a bitter time when most of the inhabitants head south. This winter, a mysterious group of strangers appear: bloodthirsty vampires ready to take advantage of the uninterrupted darkness to feed on the residents remaining in town. Barrow’s sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett), his estranged wife Stella (Melissa George) and an ever-shrinking group of survivors must do anything they can to last until daylight. Although 30 Days of Night has some of the intensity of Raimi’s Evil Dead, director David Slade brings his own visual style to the film while remaining true to his source material.
