Nine-year-old Benni (Helena Zengel) – real name Bernadette – is aggressive, rebellious and unpredictable. She’s been through foster families, care facilities and a special needs school, none of which could handle her violent outbursts of rage and frustration. She is permanently suspended from school and will not endure any physical contact.

This seemingly delicate little girl is what Mrs Bafané (Gabriela Maria Schmeide) from the youth welfare office refers to as a ‘system crasher’, but all Benni wants is to return home to her mother (Lisa Hagmeister), who is ill-equipped to deal with her daughter’s wild behaviour, and unable to detach herself from an abusive relationship. As a desperate measure, Bafané hires Micha (Albrecht Schucht), an anti-violence trainer for juvenile delinquents, who arranges for Benni to join him for three weeks of outdoor labour in his off-grid house in the woods.
