Flagship Events for Ireland’s EU Presidency:
IFI International, with the support of Culture Ireland, is teaming up with cultural partners across the EU to mount a major programme of Irish film during Ireland’s EU Presidency running from January to June 2013. The programme includes presentation of a series of silent films from the IFI Irish Film Archive accompanied by scores from contemporary Irish composers; a major focus on Jim Sheridan (pictured right) featuring both his work and influences; a season of the best of contemporary Irish documentary; and a showcase of new Irish shorts.
Highlights include George Dewhurst’s Irish Destiny (1926) presented with Micheál Ó Súilleabháin’s magnificent score on St. Patrick’s Day in Brussels; Denis Johnston’s Guests of the Nation accompanied by an orchestral score from IFTA-award-winning Niall Byrne at the new Barbican Cinema in London on April 14th; and a whirlwind tour of Willy Reilly and his Colleen Bawn with Bernard Reilly and the Cine-Theatre Ensemble at the Kino Babylon in Berlin, Cinema le Balzac in Paris and the Cine Dore in Madrid in June.
IFI International’s activity is presented in partnership with Culture Ireland as part of the International Culture Programme, Culture Connects, celebrating Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
