Irish Film Institute -IFI SCHOOLS: THE KING’S SPEECH

IFI SCHOOLS: THE KING’S SPEECH

Director: Tom Hooper

UK/ Australia, 2010, Drama, 118 mins

For 2017 Leaving Certificate candidates we offer an extended introduction to this popular choice, followed by a 15 minute presentation on a key scene. Colin Firth is the reluctant monarch, King George VI, who overcomes his speech disability with the assistance of an alternative speech therapist. With themes of duty and determination, the film merges historic events with a very personal story, in the context of Britain before World War II.
