OCTOBER 10TH – 13TH
In this year’s celebration of new German cinema, presented in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Irland, the emphasis is very much on emerging talent – four of the five films selected are the first features from their respective directors.
Whether set during the Second World War or in contemporary Berlin, one common thread throughout these titles is the struggle to define relationships, be they familial (Dust on Our Hearts), romantic (Closed Season), or just the attempt to make a connection with another person (Oh Boy).
Styles vary from tragicomic (Life is No Piece of Cake) to quirky (The Strange Little Cat), but each film is the work of a director coming to filmmaking with a fully formed and original perspective on their subject matter. It would seem that German cinema is in a state of rude health, and we are delighted to present these new films to IFI audiences.
