WILD STRAWBERRIES: THE ARTIST

Director: Michel Hazanavicius

100 minutes, France/Belgium/U.S.A., 2011, Comedy/Drama/Romance

Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

Start off the year with a skip in your step at a screening of The Artist, a charming tribute to silent cinema and last year’s Oscar-sweeper and worldwide hit. Even if the film had wowed critics at Cannes the previous May, no one could have anticipated how audiences all over would take this black and white and mostly silent film to their hearts. Set towards the end of the silent era, dancer Peppy meets the swashbuckling silent star George Valentin. As the ‘talkies’ start to become more popular so George’s career begins to slide while Peppy becomes a new kind of screen heroine: glamorous and – significantly – talking. It’s moving, heart-warming and sure to have you laughing, not least for the antics of the film’s major star, Uggy the dog.

€3.85 per person including regular tea or coffee before the screening. Please note: Wild Strawberries is our film club for over 55s. If you are lucky enough to look younger, don’t take offence if we ask your age.

Please note that due to reasons beyond our control, we were unable to screen The Artist on January 25th. We have re-scheduled this screening for February 1st. Note that tickets for January 25th are valid for February 1st’s screening.
