A taxi-set film driving through Paris may suggest predictable sights, sounds, and themes, but this warm-hearted drama serves up something a little different. Madeleine, 92, is moving across the city to a care home while hardworking driver Charles, in no mood for this passenger’s lengthy stories, knows the fare will be good. Embarking on the long trip, he finds himself listening to her surprising life experiences, while detouring to some of her youthful haunts, a flashback to the history of the city itself.  While it may head in familiar direction, this engaging, brilliantly-performed, sweet and poignant film offers life lessons and humour en route.
