SPIRITED AWAY

Director: HAYAO MIYAZAKI

125 minutes, Japan, 2001, Subtitled, Colour, 35mm

Jason Tammemägi, writer and director of Fluffy Gardens, will provide an introduction to this screening.

This much loved film from the master of Japanese anime, Hayao Miyazaki, was highly popular during its release at the IFI back in 2002, and also when shown subsequently for schools or family audiences.

Ten-year-old Chihiro doesn’t want to move house; travelling with her parents to their new town, they get side-tracked into a fantasy world where her parents are turned into squealing pigs after overeating. When nasty witch Yubaba steals her name, Chihiro must reclaim it, rescue her parents, and find the way home again. (Notes by Alicia McGivern.)

Special IFI Family ticket price for this screening: €4.80 per person, €14.40 family ticket (2 adults, 2 children). Please see page 25 for notes on our other IFI Family event, a series of short films, on September 30th.

This film is screening as part of 20/20: Landmark Films at the IFI which is part of IFI20: Celebrating 20 Years in Temple Bar.
