The award-winning debut fiction feature from documentary filmmaker Ester Martin Bergsmark is a bold and touching transgender love story. Sebastian (Saga Becker) has a job stacking shelves in a hardware store, spends some time gossiping with his sensitive flatmate, looks to find an escape from the mundane by drinking stolen booze and having risky sex and yearns not just to be like everyone else. In fact, Sebastian yearns to be a ‘superwoman’ and to be known as Ellie.

Sebastian meets handsome rebel Andreas (Iggy Malmborg) and the pair begin a passionate relationship, though the affair falters as Andreas insists he is not gay. Sebastian has to make some difficult decisions if the love between them is to survive. Set over the course of a summer in Stockholm, Something Must Break is raw, authentic and intimate filmmaking that packs a weighty emotional punch. (Notes by Michael Hayden.)
