In something of a departure, this month we screen a new documentary in this slot, one which celebrates a seminal piece of Irish film history. The Radharc Squad, produced by Tyrone Productions, tells the story of a group of Catholic Priests who produced over 400 ground-breaking and highly influential films between 1962 and 1996. They filmed warzones, riots and famines worldwide; they explored dark recesses of Irish life and subtly challenged the established orthodoxies of the Irish society attracting a steady stream of criticism from left and right for their efforts.

Made to mark the 50th anniversary of Radharc’s birth, this revealing documentary comprises of selections from the Radharc archive and new interviews with key figures who were involved with this most innovative Irish independent film company.
