LGBT HISTORY MONTH: FOOTAGE FROM THE RTÉ ARCHIVES

On the occasion of LGBT History Month, the IFI is proud to present a programme of two screenings offering fascinating perspective on the development of gay rights culture in Ireland. The second in this programme consists of footage from the RTÉ archives.

First House 
David Norris became the first Gay person to be interviewed on RTÉ TV. He is interviewed by the late Aine O’Connor. (First broadcast on July 24th, 1975.)

Tuesday Report: Homosexuality in Ireland 
Cathal O’Shannon reports and interviews gay and lesbian people for this documentary. (First broadcast on February 22nd, 1977.)

Late Late Show
Gay Byre interviews lesbian, Joni Sherrin, later to become know as Joni Crone and she becomes the first known Irish lesbian to be interviewed on the show. (First broadcast on February 9th, 1980.)

Week In – Gay Rights 
A documentary about, Laurie Steele and Arthur Leahy, living in Cork City. (First broadcast on February 11th, 1980.)

As part of this special programme, we will also present Edmund Lynch’s award-winning documentary Did Anyone Notice Us? (February 2nd, 12.00).
