IRELAND ON SUNDAY: WONDER HOUSE

Director: OONAGH KEARNEY

71 minutes, 2012, Colour

Ireland on Sunday is our monthly showcase for new Irish film.

Wonder House is a meditative, mesmerising journey through rooms full of exciting ideas and striking visual concepts. This debut film from London-based Irish filmmaker Oonagh Kearney is an experimental work which combines documentary with a loose fictional narrative to explore the attractions of art and science.

The film explores how curious young minds are engaged by childhood objects and environment. A young girl wanders through an old house, captivated by the scientific phenomena she encounters in a series of beautifully choreographed dance sequences, playful stop-motion animation and the recorded voices of real scientists recalling their first encounters with science.

Wonder House was funded under the Reel Art Scheme operated by the Arts Council, Filmbase and the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.

Director Oonagh Kearney will participate in a post-screening Q&A.
