IFI & KINOPOLIS: WOMEN’S DAY

Director: MARIA SADOWSKA

90 minutes, Poland, 2012, Subtitled, Colour, D-Cinema

When single mother Helina (Katarzyna Kwiatkowska) is promoted to manager of the supermarket in which she works, she sees it as an opportunity to improve the lives of herself and her teenage daughter. However, becoming superior to her former colleagues, along with pressure from Head Office to increase productivity and cut costs, leaves her increasingly isolated.

Reaching the limit of her tolerance, she enlists the help of her colleagues in taking the parent corporation to court over the many ways in which the workers have been exploited. Smart and engaging, it’s a story with which the viewer cannot but sympathise.

Showing as part of IFI & Kinopolis: 8th Polish Film Festival (November 5th – 9th).
