Feast Your Eyes, our monthly gastronomic feature, creates a specially created menu to complement a newly released film from the IFI programme for just €20. Join us at 18.15 on May 27th to escape to a chalet in a remote region of the French Alps in the company of Juliette Binoche, as Feast Your Eyes presents Clouds of Sils Maria, for the screening followed by a delicious meal inspired by the film’s Alpine setting:
Schweinsgeschnetzlets and Rösti Pork casserole with mushrooms and Swiss hash brown
Eggli in Bierteig mit Salzerdöpfel und Zitronensosse Battered fish fillets (Goujons) on boiled parsley potatoes and lemon sauce
Älplermagronen mit Apfelsosse Maccheroni, potato, onion in a creamy cheese sauce served with apple sauce and fried onion
Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is an internationally acclaimed star of stage and screen who has been asked to revisit a play that made her famous 20 years ago. Then she played the part of a beautiful young woman who drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to take on the role of the older woman. Her anxiety about taking on the challenge increases when she is told that Hollywood hellraiser Jo-Ann Ellis (Chloë Grace Moretz) is being approached to appear opposite her in the play. Maria escapes to a chalet in Sils Maria to rehearse and weigh up her options. Her loyal assistant Valentine (Kristen Stewart) tags along as Maria’s sounding board and confidante.
Musing on performance, relationships, aging and modern media, there are many pleasures to be had from Olivier Assayas’ latest film, notably its glorious setting and the easy chemistry between Binoche and Stewart.
Tickets note: Tickets are €20 including a film screening + dinner in the IFI Café Bar. Free list suspended
Clouds of Sils Maria opens at the IFI on May 15th.
