COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK

Director: BRETT MORGEN

132 minutes, U.S.A., 2015, Colour, D-Cinema

This film was released on Friday 10th April 2015 and is no longer screening.

The life and times of Kurt Cobain have been discussed, reviewed, analysed and diagnosed to such a degree since the lead singer of Nirvana committed suicide in 1994 that one might wonder what more there is to be said about him. He was reluctant to wear the voice of a generation tag that was pinned on him, but his legacy was some remarkable albums and an astounding cultural influence beyond his music. He also left a family and a vast archive of journals art, music, and home movies.

Director Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Crossfire Hurricane) collaborates with Cobain’s family and draws on that archive of mostly unseen material to produce a definitive and revealing portrait of an enduring icon, telling his story from his earliest years in Aberdeen, Washington, through to the height of  the fame that caused him such conflicting anguish. (Notes by Michael Hayden.)

Winner of The Dublin Film Critics Circle Award for BEST DOCUMENTARY at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2015.
